Multiplication and division

 

1) The children have been recognising and making equal groups using the sentences:

"There are... groups of ... . There are ... altogether"

 

There has been lots of hands on learning, finding different ways to make equal groups and recognising when groups are unequal.

 

 

2) The children have started to identify equal groups as repeated additions.

2) The children have used their knowledge of equal groups to construct repeated addition sentences and multiplications. Eg 3 groups of 5 = 5+5+5 = 3 x 5

 

They have also been using arrays to show how multiplication is commutative (3x5=5x3) and how we can see equal groups by looking at the rows and columns.
