Our Curriculum
Our Long Term and Medium Term Plans

Welcome to Year 1

Our bubbles

We have two Year 1 bubbles.

1A will be taught by Mrs Paxton. Miss Sleem will teach them on Thursday morning.  Mrs Matthews will work with them everyday. Miss Wilson and Mrs Griffin will be popping in during the week too!

1B will be taught by Mrs Ryall Monday to Wednesday and Thursday morning. Miss Sleem will teach them on Thursday afternoon and all day on Friday. Mrs O'Mahoney will work with them every morning. Miss Wilson and Mrs Griffin will be popping in during the week too.

Playtimes and Lunchtimes

You will see that the Key Stage 1 playground has been divided into 2 areas. The year 1 children will have their morning playtime each day at the same time, but they will have their part of the playground to play in. This will be the same at lunch time.

They will eat their lunch in their hall. All year 1 children are eligible for universal free school meals. This means that they can all have a hot lunch if you would like them to. Otherwise the children should bring their own packed lunch.

Looking after ourselves and others

Each child will be given their own pencil case with the stationery they need for the day. All this will be kept in their own tray. Any other equipment which needs to be shared will be cleaned each day.

On our PE days the children should come to school in their kit. They will wear it all day. As PE needs to be outside as much as possible they need to wear black jogging bottoms or leggings, white PE t-shirt, jumper and trainers or pumps. A school PE kit of joggers and hoody can be purchased from school.

The PE will be confirmed when we return and will be displayed on the classroom windows.

There will be no swimming for the first half term.

Children will have to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds:

when they come in to school

before and after playtime

before and after lunchtime
after any coughs or sneezes

after any “messy” activity

before they leave school

The children will be getting their own reading books, but they won't be bringing these home straight away. Please be patient. We need to make sure that they have the correct reading books and we need to finalise how we operate home readers as books will need to be quarantined when they are returned.

The children may have some word cards to practise at home. These will be related to their phonics. We do phonics every day.

What will we be learning in September?
As a school we are all starting the new  year by reading “Here We Are - Notes For Living On Planet Earth” by Oliver Jeffers. This is a fantastic book looking at our planet and everything on it. It will be a great way to think about life as it is now with Covid-19 and help us to think about how we can still get along with each other safely.

Our work will lead in to our first Mantle  - watch this space!

Our world is full of wonderful and amazing things!

We have created some fantastic pictures using natural materials.

We have daytime for when we are busy doing lots of things and a night time for when we go to sleep.
