This half term the children have been exploring our outdoor playground and experiencing a variety of learning opportunities that encourage the prime areas of learning in our curriculum. These are:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Communication and Language

Physical

Spring Term 2024

This term the children are exploring the natural environment in the wooded area in Nursery. This will help to develop their knowledge and understanding of the physical world around them.

Rain, Rain go away come again another day!

The children have enjoyed singing songs in the rain this week, talking about the rain and observing  the shapes the rain makes when it falls into puddles.

This week in the wooded area the children were introduced to the large board and chalks. This encouraged the children to explore different materials in their learning environment as well as encouraging mark making, drawing freely, giving meaning to their marks and to use large muscle movements when mark making.

This week the children have been  practicing and developing skills related to their physical development. They have enjoyed practicing throwing, kicking and catching balls as well as balancing on the stepping stones. Some of these skills are not easy and the children have shown good perseverance and concentration.

Nursery have been enjoying the provision in our undercover area this week. They have enjoyed mark making on the easel, developing stories with the dinosaurs and building tall and short towers with the bricks.

The Woods

Nursery have been enjoying the woods this week and transferring all the knowledge and skills they have gained in our Mantle story to a real outdoor, natural area. The children when working as a team of gardeners in Mantle learnt about how to care for seeds, flowers and plants using a variety of tools.
