How can parents support Reading at home?

Reading

Each week the children read in a small group three times a week with an adult.  Through careful assessments, each half term, Children are allocated a  decodable reading book to match their phonic knowledge.  These sessions enable children to:

read easily and fluently with good understanding.

make sense of what they have read.

build on what they already know.

give them a desire to want to read.

develop the habit of reading widely and often.

acquire a wide vocabulary, an understanding of grammar.

The children also enjoy story time as a whole class. They are learning about fiction and non fiction books and the meaning of the words author and illustrator.

All children choose a book from our library which they keep in their draw and can read or share when they have choosing time.
