The Colour Monster Emotion Sorters (Autumn 2024)

The children have been working hard learning about emotions. We have been identifying what makes us feel happy, sad and angry, and what our faces may look like when we feel like this.  This has made us into expert emotion sorters!

The children received a letter in the classroom, addressed to 'Reception'. We decided that it was OK to open the letter because it was addressed to us.  We read the letter and discovered it was from the Colour Monster!  He needed our help to sort some photos our because he was poorly in bed!

We sorted the emotions for the Colour Monster and put the pictures in some jars.  We all had a go at making sad, happy and angry faces.

We talked to each other about what makes us feel happy, sad and angry and drew some pictures of these things.  The adults wrote the ideas down in speech bubbles.

Oh no! We forgot to tell the Colour Monster that we had finished his job!

We had to talk about how to get a message to him. We used our new knowledge about the internet and devices that connect to the internet, to have a vote about how to best contact him; video call, text message, email, phone? The highest vote was email! We are waiting for him to email us back!

The Colour Monster emailed us back and sent us a special key! It is the key to his house!

Mrs Heynes and Miss Palmer used the Storyteller Voice to take us on an adventure to find the Colour Monster's house.  Before we left, we had to pack our bags with all the things we needed for a trip away. We had to sail on a ship through rough seas, scale mountains, squelch through a muddy bog and use our binoculars for clues until we came to a signpost!  "To the Colour Monster's House".

We knocked on the door 3 times........
