In Smarties there are three grown-ups Miss Davies, Mrs Bridges and Miss Hirst.
Our bubble will be a mix of year 1 and 2 children and will stay together all day.
Looking after ourselves and others
Each child will be given their own pencil case with the stationery they need for the day. All this will be kept in their own tray. Any other equipment which needs to be shared will be cleaned each day.
Children will have to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds:
when they come in to school
before and after playtime
before and after lunchtime
after any coughs or sneezes
after any “messy” activity
before they leave school
Children will be greeted by one of the adults in the morning, they will wash their hands ready for registration. Talking about our feelings and emotions is very important in Samrties and each day the children will be asked how they are feeling using their own feelings chart.
In the morning we enjoy fine motor skills, phonics and handwriting. After, we have a snack time where we all have toast. The children will have the choice of butter, jam and peanut butter.
When the children have helped to clear away it is time for playtime. Smarties have a different playtime from the year 1 and 2 children so we don’t mix bubbles and can keep safe.
After playtime we enjoy a maths session.
The children will be taken by the grown-ups in Smarties to collect their lunch and eat it in the classroom. All year 1 and 2 children are eligible for universal free school meals. This means that they can all have a hot lunch if you would like them to. If not, then the children should bring their own packed lunch.
On PE days children will need to wear their PE kit to school until further notice.
PE will be delivered outside, they need to wear black jogging bottoms or leggings, white PE t-shirt, jumper and trainers or pumps. A school PE kit of joggers and hoody can be purchased from school.
Wednesday sessions will focus on ball games.
Friday sessions will focus on developing social skills.
The equipment used will be limited. It will cleaned down after the session.
There will be no swimming for the first half term.
As a school we are all starting the new year by reading “Here We Are - Notes For Living On Planet Earth” by Oliver Jeffers. This is a fantastic book looking at our planet and everything on it. It will be a great way to think about life as it is now with Covid-19 and help us to think about how we can still get along with each other safely.
Our work will lead in to our first Mantle - watch this space!
The children will be getting their own reading books, but they won't be bringing these home straight away. Please be patient. We need to make sure that they have the correct reading books and we need to finalise how we operate home readers as books will need to be quarantined when they are returned.
The children may have some word cards to practise at home. These will be related to their phonics. We do phonics every day.
