This half term, Miss Capron-Tee was teaching us to play the ocarina! We learned how to hold, blow and cover the holes. We learned how to play D, B and A, and had a lot of fun beginning to read music and playing together.
It seems that the problem isn't in the water village. It is in the surrounding rainforest. The team were transported by helicopter. They flew over the canopy and could see some of the trees poking out above it. This was the emergent layer. Finally they descended to the forest floor and were able to look up into the understory.
The team were asked to fly out to Kampong Ayer. It seems that there is a travel company with a problem. Kampong Ayer is in Asia and near the equator. The team found out that there was an 8 hour time difference. They also discovered that it has a tropical climate, so it is warm with plenty of rain. The journey was long. First a coach journey, then a flight, then a minibus and finally they needed to find a water taxi to the village. Kampong Ayer is a water village. We couldn't understand the sign at first.
The solution was to build a living bridge across the new road. It needed strong cylindrical supports and a platform.
At the side of the road the team found some animals. One appeared to be hurt. We listened in to the voices of the animals.
The team spotted something on their cameras. As they zoomed in they found it was a road. The road was wide with 3 lanes on each side.
The team were contacted by a Worcestershire Wildlife Group. The number of nesting bats in Redditch has fallen dramatically. They believe the bright, white lights on the Highway are the problem. The bats don't like the white light. It makes them vulnerable to predators. They are having to fly further to find food. The team spoke with the Wildlife Group and the highways department. It was agreed that the lighting would be changed to red light.
Bob's farm house was on the edge of the cliff and in danger of falling into the sea. Bob didn't want to leave the house. He has always lived there. The builders said the house will fall into the sea and so it needs to be demolished. The Habitat Helpers needed to help the farmer and the builders find a solution. It seems the house could be taken down, brick by brick and rebuilt on a new plot.
The team track explorers. Some are well known. We have tracked them on past explorations and expeditions. We are still tracking them on their current challenges.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes has completed all but 3 challenges in his quest to complete the Global Reach Challenge. We will be there supporting him as he tries to climb the highest mountain in South America.
Some of the explorations are top secret.
