Spring

This term we had a real life commission from Dr David Allen of MantleNetwork.com

He has been working on a Living Museums project and asked if we would like to help.

Kinghurst Academy in Chelmsley Wood have a replica Anglo Saxon village in their grounds. Could they renovate it so that groups of children could visit and learn about life in those days?

We were asked to find out about the areas in the village and provide some content for a funding bid to show how it could really benefit children's learning if it were to be improved.

Even though it was a recommission from a real person, we still managed to do lots of drama and inquiry like we would in Mantle. David met with us throughout the project and we now wait to see our work published in the Living Museums website.

We asked our families to help us make costumes and really enjoyed wearing them throughout the project

We made posters to show other children how to make a costume when they visit the village.

Watch our short film…

And this one about Beowulf...

We also created artwork telling the beginning of the story of Beowulf. We worked in the style of illustrator Laura Carlin.

And finally these suggestions for activities children might do…

We were REALLY interested in the leech and in making and eating Anglo Saxon style bread.

We also created food props in the style of Claus Oldenburg. We loved seeing his work - especially his fries and ice cream sculptures and 5is inspired us to make ours from clay.

We arranged the food into an Anglo Saxon feast!

We made training videos for adults who might work in role in the village. These are biographies of some Anglo Saxon characters we created.

Thank you to David Allen for inviting us to work on this project.
