Summer Term

WB: 20.04.26

This week we have started our new Mantle!

The team is called 'The Wild Garden Explorers'.

The Wild Garden explorers are experts in mapping out areas, growing vegetables, identifying animals and design solutions.

They can:

  • Create maps

  • Give advice

  • Grow fruit and vegetables

  • Identify animals

  • Know what food animals need

  • Teach people about healthy eating

  • Design and create solutions for problems.

We received a message in a bottle that read:

Dear Explorers,

our forest is in trouble. We need experts.

Please come quickly.’”

We discussed what an explorer was and what their job might be.  Then we set to work selecting equipment to take with us on our journey and packed our backpacks.

We then create the map of the Island, that the forest was on, and decided as a team that we would have to fly by aeroplane to get there.

Provision

We also had a busy time in the unit creating musical instruments, washing baby clothes and socks, measuring each other and ordering ourselves by height, threading and making words using the magnetic letters.

Outdoor Provision

With the weather being really good this week the children have been using their own ideas to use the equipment.

We have had lots of vehicles being made out of the Mobilo,  ropes were being used to tie around the tyres to pull along (some even tried pulling their friends on the tyres), painting the windows and walls with water and large paint brushes.

What a super time had by all!

WB: 13.04.26

Our first week back after the Easter holidays has been very busy!

This week in Reception, we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes!

The children have been learning to recognise and name a variety of 3D shapes such as cubes, spheres, cylinders, and cones. They have enjoyed investigating how these shapes look, feel, and can be used in everyday objects. We talked about their properties, including faces, edges, and corners, using lots of hands-on activities to support understanding.

The children have especially enjoyed accessing the provision, where they have been able to explore 3D shapes through play. In the construction area, they tested bricks to see which ones roll, built models using different shaped blocks and match 2D shapes.

We also spotted 3D shapes in our environment and talked about where we might see them in real life.

It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged, using their imagination, and developing their mathematical language through play.

Well done, Reception!

We have also looked at items from the past.

The children really enjoyed exploring the items and using them in the role play area.
