Week beginning the 7th April
A great week of Easter fun, learning about spring and new life. The children have planted their own pansies, looked at baby animals and loved hunting for different numbered and patterned eggs. Have a lovely Easter nursery families. See you in the Summer term.
24th March to 4th April
The children in Nursery have been working as the Lost and Found team searching for Mr Enormous’ lost egg. The have found eggs of all shapes and sizes, belonging to lizards, crocodiles, snakes and birds. But so far they haven’t found the one belonging to Mr Enormous. The children have loved learning about the different animals that live in the rainforest and sorting between animals that lay eggs and animals that don’t.
Alongside our mantle work the children have explored the sounds of different materials to make their own instruments. They have also enjoyed the outside area, using the balls and tunnels to explore cause and effect.
This week our Family Learning was very popular, that you to all of the families that joined us. It was great to see you exploring the maths activities that we enjoy in Nursery.
10th to 21st March
The Lost and Found Team in Nursery have had a new commission come in and it’s very important. Mr Enormous needs help as he has lost his egg which is very special to him. He has asked the team to take their passports, pack their clothes and book tickets to the hot and sunny Brazil. This was a big task as the team had only ever been to cold places before, so they needed to know what to pack. The travel agents were very helpful and helped them to get on the plane in time. Once the team landed they rushed to see where Mr Enormous was and they found themselves in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. They couldn’t believe the tall slender trees, huge wide tree trunks, long hanging vines and thin spiky leaves. Our Mantle story has allowed the children to explore the wider world, look at different climates, develop story telling and practise lots of social communication alongside their imaginative and creative skills. Great job Nursery, let’s hope the Team can help Mr Enormous soon.
24th February-7th March
Over the last two weeks the children have enjoyed exploring traditional tales. They have loved building houses for the three pigs and becoming the wolf to ‘huff and puff’ to blow them down. Mixing porridge for the three bears and checking up on Goldilocks was important in the role play area and the small world work has been retelling the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Outside the children have loved building bridges with the large construction and using the language of big, small, huge, large and tiny to describe each of the goats to the troll living beneath it. Making puppets and writing their own story was very popular in the writing and creative areas. The adults are really impressed by how many story writers we have in nursery. Alongside this the children have celebrated pancake day and tasted different types of pancake including vegan and gluten free versions. Such a busy week. Our new Mantle story starts next week. Watch this space to see what the Lost and Found team are up to next.
3rd -14th February
The team of Mountain Rescuers worked very hard to find the lost girl on the snowy mountain. They flew the helicopter and climbed up high to make sure she was safe. They used their ropes and skills to bring her back down to meet her Mum, the girl and the mum was so happy to be reunited The team received a wide range of thank you cards and notes to thank you for them for their hard work.
Children in Nursery have also been working really hard on their maths skills this week making sure that they can recognise different shapes, numbers and amounts through games, inside and out. The children also used their counting skills to solve problems. We have had a fantastic half term and it has been lovely to see our new children settle so quickly. We are looking forward to seeing how the children continue to progress and grow over the rest of the Spring term.
27th - 31st January
What a week of wonder and excitement nursery have had! We started the week exploring Chinese New Year, learning about New Year traditions, exploring some Chinese flavours and using light and shadow to act out the New Year story. We made our very own New Year snakes and printed symmetrical patterns to represent dragons. In the outdoor area it was all about the mountain rescue team camp. The team set up their tent, used the bucket to catch fish for dinner and grilled them on the bbq. The aeroplane pilots made sure that the planes were landing carefully as they looked for the lost girl. As the mantle story continued the team hit a problem. A snowstorm arrived! This made the search for the lost girl even more tricky. The children enjoyed exploring the snow swirling, blowing around the room and settling on the ground. At this point the helicopter was the only option for the rescue mission. We hope the team can find a girl very soon!
13th -17th January 2025
Nursery have had a fantastic couple of weeks. We have welcomed some new members to our nursery and really got stuck into our learning for the term. The children have loved exploring the provision and stretched their role play skills by using our own nursery cafe. They have served the customers, make the food, put it back in the right places so it doesn’t go bad or melt and also created their own menus. In mantle we have started exploring cold, icy and snowy places ready for our journey up a mountain. The children have used their knowledge of 2D shapes to create their own snowy, slippery and steep mountain and used mod rock to smooth and shape a mountain model of their own. Outside, the weather has helped us to understand freezing and melting and we have used our physical skills to throw, aim bat and roll while creating our own games. Nursery have had a great start to 2025 and we can’t wait to see where our learning takes us next.
Week beginning 20th January
This week the team in nursery has been continuing their job to find a missing little girl up a steep, slippery and snowy mountain. The mum was worried as she found the little girls hat, scarf and wellies as she was looking for her and knew that she would be cold. The nursery children counted the footprints in the snow and created their emergency mobile phones so that they could call the lost and found team and tell they where to start looking. At the end of the week the mountain rescue team decided to take the dangerous journey to find the little girl. This week the children have been exploring their small world role-play and storytelling skills using their mod rock mountain. The team needed to pack their bags with the right equipment and have their eye protection and torches ready as they tracked in the snow.
Alongside their mantle work the children have been exploring different textures through ice painting and mixing cornflower and water. They enjoyed painting snowy landscapes on tin foil and taking calls and emails at the lost and found office. The children used their gross motor and hand eye coordination skills outside to create their own games and also used the undercover area to role play their journey up the steep mountain.
