Summer Term

WC 28.04.25

What a lovely week back! In mantle, the team have discovered the troll is missing from under the bridge and made wanted posters to place around the village! Please see our mantle page to learn more about this.

In literacy, the children have continued their troll hunt; going through a big, dark forest and a narrow, gloomy cave. They have written sentences to describe the sounds of different animals in the forest, as well as how the cave made them feel. They have also been practicing the formation of capital letters, I, L, T, E, F and H.

In maths, the children have practiced building numbers to 20 and recognising patterns within the number system. They have used numicon, cubes, representation cards and number lines to practice counting and composing numbers to 20 in different ways.

They have loved painting the clay troll heads they made before the easter holidays and they look amazing!

W.C 5.05.25

This week the team have followed some muddy footprints through the deep dark forest... Please see our mantle page to see what we discovered!

In literacy this week the children have been writing simple sentences and some have been extending their sentences using the word 'and'.

In maths, the children have continued their work with numbers to 20 by recognising verbal counting patterns through the game 'I count, you count'. They have also practiced their recall of doubles and subitising (recognising without counting) numbers using 5 and 10 frames.

For music this week, the children have been creating their own instruments using junk modelling materials. They made a selection of instruments such as shakers, drums and guitars! They look amazing and they are very excited to play these in their own class performance in the coming weeks!

The children also loved learning about the importance of VE day and celebrating with a whole school dance and picnic towards the end of the week. They even made their own flags to wave!

W.C 12.05.25

This week the children have concluded their mantle story by speaking to the troll and finding out that he wants somewhere new to live; somewhere quiet and definitely not made of brick! They are very excited about hosting his house warming party next week! Please see our mantle page to read more about this.

In literacy this week, the children have written a list of requirements from the troll for his new house, as well as writing invitations for his house warming party! There have been lots of opportunities for independent writing in the provision and we have had some beautifully written sentences describing the troll. In handwriting the children have continued practicing capital letters; this week focusing on R, U, P, B, D and J.

In maths this week, the children have explored adding and taking away using counters/ counting objects and 10 frames. They have practiced using the sentence stems 'First there were ... Then ... were added/taken away... Now there are...'. They have also practiced taking away through the game 'how many did I take away?'

Well done Reception!

Little Owl Farm

The children in Reception had a wonderful time exploring Little Owl Farm.  We saw so many animals!

The children were so well bahaved and set an example to the other visiting schools on the day! We are very proud!

Here are a few photos from the day.

W.C 2.06.25

What a lovely first week back! The children have been introduced to their new mantle this week; learning all about the king and his coronation in 2023. Please see our mantle page to see more about this learning!

In literacy this week, reception have been labelling pictures of the king, discussing and writing down his thoughts feelings at his coronation and designing their own crowns! They have worked very hard with their independent writing and using their phonics knowledge to sound out words they want to write.

In maths, reception have been exploring sharing and grouping using counting objects and toys. They particularly liked exploring this in the role play area at the teddy bears picnic!

WC 9.06.25

This week the children have continued their steps into mantle by learning all about Buckingham palace and who works there. Please see our mantle page to see more!

In maths, the children have been exploring odd and even numbers through sharing. They have been brilliant at noticing patterns between odd and even numbers and exploring them practically using counting objects and part wholes. They have also enjoyed playing 'doubles bingo' to recap on previous knowledge!

In handwriting, the children have practiced writing tricky words, making sure to snuggle their letters together.

In literacy, the children have mainly been focusing on their independent sentence writing and searching the classroom for hidden pictures to label on clipboards! They also made some beautiful cards to send home to adults on Friday, we hope you all enjoyed them!
