  • If you are bringing a child to school

    Fri 12 Jun 2020

This is especially important if you are bringing your child to school next week.

    • One adult to one child please. (The social bubbles from Saturday should make this possible).
    • Stick to the drop off and pick up times you have been given.
    • Follow the one way system.
    • Keep 2 metres apart from others.
    • Do not approach the classroom door.

    Thank you

  • Letter from Mr Kieran

    Fri 12 Jun 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, can we thank you again for your amazing support over the past few months. The Woodrow Community really is the best. This continues to be a time of uncertainty, but following the government announcement this week we do know that some children will not be returning to school this term.

We appreciate that this may be upsetting or even frustrating for some of you. We miss all of the children and can’t wait until Woodrow is full of their smiles, laughter and learning. We know that they are missing their friends, but we need to continue to stay safe.

We have done as the government asked and changed Woodrow so that children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1 can be in school in small bubbles. This means that already we are using Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 classrooms. There are already 14 members of staff working directly with these 56 children and a further 3 in the hall with the children of key workers. These “bubbles” are very nearly full. Other available staff are either working in essential tasks in school or working from home.

Therefore, we do not have the capacity - space, staff or time wise to have Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4 children in school right now. When thinking about what might be possible, we believe it is right to prioritise organising some provision for Year 4 children before they move on to middle school. It will be important for them to finish their time at Woodrow as positively as we can manage.

Next week, we will be asking parents of Year 4 children for their thoughts on our draft plans. These will also need to be approved by our governors. We will need definite numbers of children who would like to return so that we can get everything prepared. Please make sure we have your email address and that you check our website or Facebook page.

We will also continue to support Year 2 and Year 3 children with Home Learning and keep in touch as much as we can. Meanwhile, we wait for government TV announcements and subsequent guidelines on what school will be like in September. We will keep you up to date via our website and Facebook page.

We are in the process of collecting parent and carer emails so that we can send out information to Year Groups efficiently. This information will include end of year reports and details of classes for next year. Please check the Useful Information section of the Parent area on our website. https://www.woodrowfirstschool.co.uk/useful-information/

We have been overwhelmed by the support from our community. Kindness has shone through in words and deeds. The challenges we have faced have been met with understanding by you. The frustrations that have angered us as a school have been met with calm by yourselves. We appreciate this and value your tremendous support. We will be back in September laughing, joking and smiling again - which is what we do at Woodrow.

    Thank you all

    Richard Kieran and teamwoodrow

  • For Nursery, Reception and Year 1 children travelling to school

    Fri 12 Jun 2020

We have some children from Reception and Year 1 returning to school on Monday.

Remember - you should NOT TRAVEL BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT. You should ensure you walk or travel by car.

If you need to use a taxi, you should follow their guidelines about face coverings and where to sit.

If you have no other choice other than to travel by bus, you should consider whether this is worth the risk at this time.

YOU and your CHILDREN MUST wear a FACE COVERING from Monday when on a bus and must use hand sanitizer when you get off the bus and remove the face covering. The only exception is for children under 2 years old.

  • Update for Years 2, 3 and 4

    Fri 12 Jun 2020

The government have scrapped their plans to have everyone return to school this term.

At Woodrow, this means that Year 2 and Year 3 will NOT be back before September. Please look at the Home Learning sections of our website for lessons, activities and support.

We are looking now at how we might have Year 4 children in school for a couple of sessions just before the end of term to support their transition from Woodrow to middle school.

In order to gather your opinions on any plans and to keep you up to date, make sure we have your email address. We are missing lots of addresses and are struggling to reach many parents by phone. This makes everything more difficult!

Please encourage all Year 4 parents to email or phone us with contact details as we do not want Year 4 children to miss out on the possibility of being in school. There will be a lot of information to share and permissions to gain from you. There are also details about leavers videos - again, we do not want children to miss out.

Keep checking here and your emails for further details.

    Thanks xx

  • Update for Nursery / Reception / Year 1

    Fri 12 Jun 2020

The government have scrapped their plans to bring all children back to school before the end of term.

However, the plans for Nursery, Reception and Year 1 are still in place.

If we have contacted you about your child returning on Monday, all of these plans still stand. Everything you need to know is in the group emails, so please reread the documents before Monday.

We wouldn't usually say this, but you must NOT BE EARLY!!! This is to avoid lots of people being on the playground at the same time.

Remember that there is a one way system - in through the main gate and out through the KS1 gate - without exception. We know this may involve extra walking, but it is for everyone's safety.

    Thanks xx

  • Update

    Sun 07 Jun 2020

On Monday we welcome back some Nursery children. Mrs Williams has confirmed times with parents.

Next week, we will be phoning parents of Reception and Year 1 children who have said yes to returning.

Please note that we cannot accept any more children to start back on the 15th June as each bubble has a maximum number of children and we would need to organise new groups.

This takes a lot of preparation in terms of the classroom, resources, staffing, emails, start and end times and sending out information on the new rules and protocols.

If you have any questions, please give us a call.
Thanks for your support as always.

  • Year 4 Leavers Video

    Mon 01 Jun 2020

We would love to try to make a Year 4 Leavers Video, but we will need your help to spread the word please!

On our website we have added a form with the details. Parents should send us the form so that we have your details to email you the end of year report in July. You might also like to send a message for the leavers video!

ALSO, please email two photos as it says in the form (one from the time your child started school and one from now - they might want to hold up a nice message too).

We will then put them all together. It would be great to have everyone involved so please share this and point other parents to the website for details.

We don't know anything about Y4 returning to school, but hopefully we can arrange a safe celebration at some point - even if this has to be in September... 🤞🙏

For now let's get everyone involved in the video.
