Mrs Bailey- Guardians of the Forest

Science

Step 1: The Natural World

Step 2: Creating the forest.

Step 3: The forbidden path.

The children discovered a path and a sign.

Forbidden Path

Do Not Enter!

The children decided to walk along the path, they were cautious and careful to observe everything around them. They followed the wild flowers growing along the path and the deciduous trees. They came to a garden full of flowers and from a distance saw a cottage. They decided to knock on the door.

They heard a voice

Change is coming

Leave now!

The children wanted to find out more and persevered by asking questions. Whoever lived behind the door was older, had cared for the forest but the work was becoming too much. The children offered to help but the person did not trust them. They wanted evidence of their knowledge of wild and garden flowers as well as information about deciduous forests and what animals lived there. The children promised to return the following week with their work. We began creating a folder of evidence.

Step 4: The Client

The children returned to the Forest with the folder of evidence and knocked on the door. The door began to slowly open. Stood before the children was Grandma. She looked carefully at our evidence and asked questions about our knowledge of forests. She agreed she would accept our help…however we were to be prepared! The forest was not all that it seemed! She shared a story with us…something she had witnessed in the past.

“The soil surrounded the forest ground, it lay still.

Plants and wildlife lived and breathed all around.
Then footprints, fur and blood.”

The children looked at the image that Grandma had shared with them.

The team created cameras and placed these in the forest.

The footage from the cameras showed a wolf!

The Guardians of the Forest made plans to catch the wolf. A trail of meat was to be left which would lead to a trap. However the Guardians agreed their role was to protect and no harm would come to the wolf. They just needed to speak to him and understand why he was killing and destroying areas of the forest.

The Guardians began to lay out the trail of meat and build a trap. They waited quietly hidden from view. The wolf appeared, he stepped with caution but once he smelt the meat he moved quickly and began to eat until finally he was in the trap.

The Guardians spoke to him, he was hungry and as a carnivore needed meat to survive. The Guardians explained about Grandma and how this was a place she had lived in for many years. The wolf agreed to leave and explore other areas of forests nearby.
